Gyorgy Michna was born on December 19, 1921 in Miskolc, the first child of pharmacist Mihaly Michna and Gizella Zborovszky. Four years later, his only sibling, Magdolna Mandula , was born. Both of their ancestors came from the Felvidek region. The Michna family received Hungarian nobility from Ferdinand III on May 13, 1655.1 The family originally lived in Sajoszentpeter, but moved to Papa in 1927, when, following the distribution of his paternal inheritance, Mihaly Michna bought a pharmacy here partly on credit. The familys two children grew up here, and their son, who did not spend the first six years of his life here, also considered himself a papa child.2 Although Mihaly Michna originally wanted his growing son to become a pharmacist and follow the family tradition since his father was also a pharmacist this did not happen in the end. His daughter, however, eventually carried on the family tradition. The children received the best possible education after elementary school at the famous Papa Reformed College Refi , where students such as Sandor Petofi and Mor Jokai had previously attended. At the Reformed College, Gyorgy Michna did not stand out for his academic achievements as he told me in this regard, he rather lived on the Papai beach than studying but for his sporting achievements. The vast majority of the students were greatly influenced by the excellent physical education teacher, Jeno Lajos Kovacs Szakur, who brilliantly organized the sports life of the College.3 Gyorgy Michna himself referred to Lajos Kovacs as his favorite teacher, who clearly inspired him greatly in the field of sports. Michna Gyorgy's achievements in sports first entered the institutional yearbook in his fourth year, when he came third among the older students in the city tennis championship in mid-September 1934. In the dormitory swimming competition held a few days later, he won the 25-meter breaststroke competition for the younger age group.4 The following year, as a fifth-grader, in the 50-meter breaststroke competition held in Papa for local high schools in September 1935, Michna Gyorgy came second in the 50-meter breaststroke.5 During the following school year, in the city high school target shooting competition held in September 1936 (50 meters, three positions), Michna Gyorgy won both individually and, as a member of the dormitory's five-person team, also came first in the team. In the same year, in November 1936, Michna Gyorgy won the 50 m breaststroke again in the youth category at the swimming competition organized by the Papai Sports Association.6 In the following school year, as a sixth grader, he was the captain of the swimming section of the student sports club. In this school year, in October 1937, he won the city high school target shooting competition again individually and with the Dormitory team. In the same October, he won the youth doubles competition of the city tennis championship with a dormitory colleague. In December 1937, he won a silver medal at the medal-winning gymnastics competition held in Gyor. After that, in March 1938, in a first-class district championship in Szekszard, against much more serious opponents, they achieved 2nd place as a member of the Dormitory gymnastics team. In the school year-end all-around gymnastics competition held at the end of May 1938, Gyorgy Michna won the II. class event the athletes were in two or three groups, classes according to the classification). In addition, he won the 100 m breaststroke at the schools swimming competition held in October 1937. Last but not least, he won the II. class all-around fencing competition at the schools year-end fencing competition held at the end of May 1938.7 In the following school year, Gyorgy Michna, a VII. class student, was the president of the target shooting section of the student sports club. His outstanding sporting achievements were the following: he won the city high school rifle competition held in October 1938, both individually and as a member of the dormitory team. He won the II. class event held by the KISOK in Budapest on March 25, 1939. In the 1938 national gymnastics championship, the Dormitory team, including Gyorgy Michna, came second out of 17 teams. In swimming, he won the 50-meter breaststroke and the 3x50 medley relay at the city interschool competition held in September 1938. In his last school year, 1939-40, the then-graduating eighth-grader Gyorgy Michna was the president of the dormitory student sports club. He also became the schools 1940 champion based on his mid-year victories and won the schools combined running, jumping, throwing power point competition. He again won the local target shooting competition held in October 1939 50 meters 3 positions. His most valuable achievement was that during the national gymnastics championship organized by KISOK on April 14, 1940, the College team of which he was also a member won the 2nd class national championship out of 18 participants. The team also won the 2nd class district team championship organized by the western district of MOTESz on May 2, 1940 in Sopron. There, György Michna also won the 1st class district championship in vaulting. As for other sports, he won the college championship in January 1940
